We are excited to announce the latest update to our WizeFloor software, featuring a host of new features and improvements designed to enhance your experience. 

As always, this update also includes essential bug fixes to ensure the overall software runs smoothly. So keep an eye out for the “Update Available” button in your floor menu.

RoboTrax Updates

Our RoboTrax application has received an upgrade based on customer feedback! You can now control the robot’s movements using rotation buttons, providing more precise and dynamic interaction. This feature also adds a layer of complexity for older children, as it requires more abstract thinking. Look for the new “Buttons” dropdown in the “Board Setup” section for RoboTrax games to enable this new feature in your games.

Additionally, we’ve introduced the ability to play games in sequence, allowing you to seamlessly progress to the next level. In this way you can prepare a number of levels in your game and progress to the next level by pressing the “Continue” button after succesful completion. 

Last but not least it is now possible to specify the origin of the board, so it follows a more traditional x,y coordinate system, where the origin is in the bottom left corner. Look for the “Grid origin” setting in the editor.

New Onboarding Experience

To ensure a smooth start for new users, we’ve implemented a new onboarding flow when installing WizeFloor the first time. This feature will guide you through the initial setup and help you get started the best way possible with WizeFloor. We’ll ensure the internet is working, the correct product type is set, and the camera is adjusted, so you can start exploring the available games without any hassle.

The new RoboTrax games develop children’s collaboration skills and strategic thinking, and furthermore, they provide a taste of what it means to program. 

WizeFloor’s games have so far been characterized by inviting play, where children are encouraged to use their whole body in interaction with various motion games projected onto the floor. We have chosen to challenge this mindset in our latest gaming universe: RoboTrax!

Rather than using their bodies as game pieces on the interactive floor, players control an animated character by using projected buttons on the floor, or a Bee-Bot, a small physical robot with buttons. The animated or physical character is navigated through a maze and along the way, players can steer towards items that award points to collect, while also avoiding obstacles. 

The difficulty level of the games can be adjusted according to the players’ skills. While younger children can receive instant feedback on their instructions, older children can explore the programming aspects of the games.

 In the RoboTrax games designed for school-aged children, players can pre-program a longer sequence of actions, which is then executed. Children must demonstrate strategic thinking, teamwork, and communication skills to plan a longer route, but with the many interactive aspects of RoboTrax, motivation remains high. This way, children get a taste of what it means to program while engaging in social and physical play.  

The RoboTrax game series will be released on April 10th, consisting of the games “To the Moon”, “Get Home Safe”, and “Mouse Maze”.

In the photo, you can see children interacting with our learning tool WizeFloor on the 100th floor of the tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong. This made us happy, of course, but also a bit curious: Does a Danish educational tool work on the other side of the planet because kids are the same everywhere? Or is it the other way around: Do children in Hong Kong like our tool because it’s new to them?

So, we asked Leslie Wong, our partner at Dolphin BB Education Limited, who is an educator himself. ”Traditionally, the most common approaches to education in Hong Kong are constructivist and cognitive, in my opinion,” he explains. ”These types of approaches cater to the education system in Hong Kong.”

”I think the most impressive element about WizeFloor is its experimental approach: It provides different games for students and enables them to have scientific experiences and build up knowledge. And students also enhance their social and cognitive skills while playing. Children really enjoy the animations and interactions with others. It’s such a valuable experience compared to playing e-devices on your own at home.”

IMAGE CHASER

The purpose of Image Chaser is to catch the images moving across the floor. Sometimes they may escape when you step on them and other times you will catch them and the image will change. One of the games is the fruit cutter where different fruits move around and when you step on them they will be divided into to pieces. It is possible to create your own games with any types of images and you can decide if a single image or a sequence of images should be shown with sound.

FISH GAMES

Fish games are classic on interactive floors, and we have now launched a version for WizeFloor, which is available in two variations. The first variation is about catching fish and getting the highest team score. The app is suitable to be used with a tool like a long stick for special needs education. The other variation has focus on the sensory experience where you can walk among the fish that will swim away when you come too close.

As usual, it is possible to put your personal mark on the games by changing the background image and music as well as you can change settings such as time and speed.

The games have been developed in collaboration with our Japanese partner Relax’Creation and NHK.

GEOMETRIX

Geometrix is a well-known game, which is now back with a new design based on modern technology. The purpose of the app is to solve geometry tasks by placing objects on the floor and making shapes that meet different criteria such as number of pages, area, isosceles etc. Our app allows you to design your own games with new tasks.

IMAGE SEARCH

A functionality which has often been sought after is image search when creating games. We are happy to fulfill the demand in this version, where we have made it easier than ever to create your own games for WizeFloor. Simply press the “Search” button next to an image field, enter a search phrase and select the desired image. We only search for royalty-free images in high quality.

OTHER

• It has become easier to create your own obstacles in Obstacle Race. You can for example choose whether the obstacle gives plus, minus or no points, which opens up the use of the app for a variety of new learning games.
• WizeFloor GO can now calibrate automatically when moving the device up or down. In addition, the recognition of hands and feet has been improved.
• The chess game has been removed from the software, as Flash is no longer supported by Adobe.
• The iOS app has been removed from the App Store, as all the features of the editing program can now be accessed directly from WizeFloor.com/app with any browser.

In a niche in the middle of a 145-meter-long corridor called the Fairy Tale Corridor, you can hear whoops, giggles and laughter as a child and parents meet on the interactive floor, WizeFloor, which the children’s hospital has installed in the ceiling. Here, children can click their hands and feet on the large floor screen and play different games either alone or against each other.

The hospital was among the first in the healthcare sector to install the interactive floors back in 2013 in both the Adventure Corridor and the cancer ward. The idea then, as now, was to get children out of hospital beds and stimulate them physically and mentally, thus speeding up their recovery.

“It provides a distraction for the children and means that they have the opportunity to spend their time actively instead of just lying in their wards waiting to get well,” explains Mette Sorang Kjær, welfare coordinator and social educator at H.C. Andersen Children and Youth Hospital. Andersen Children and Youth Hospital.

The living floors make particular sense at a time when the hospital is challenged by the stricter cleaning framework imposed by the Corona pandemic. It works well now that toys have been removed and living spaces have been closed down.

In her work as a welfare coordinator, she has been tasked with creating the best environment for the children in the hospital. In her search for possible solutions, she came across the interactive floor.

The floor is freely accessible, so there are a lot of children and parents who naturally go and use it when they are there. There are no rules on how to use it.

It is used both by the fasting child waiting with his or her parents to be called for surgery. Or a girl spending her waiting time with the hero of the game. Or it could be family and siblings coming from far and wide to visit the new baby brother.

WizeFloor contains a wide variety of activities, ranging from quizzes and memory games to balloon games and categorization games. They are designed to stimulate interactivity, collaboration and inclusion for all users on the floor.

OBSTACLE RACE

In Obstacle Race, 1-4 players play together to overcome different obstacles. The players are given their own track on the floor where they run in place. The players encounter different objects such as insects, moles, footballs, bananas and much more. For some obstacles you receive bonus points while others subtract points, so be careful where you step. Eventually points are added up and the total scores of the players are displayed on the scoreboard. There are various options if you would like to design your own game. You may for example create your own obstacles, adjust the number of players, game length or speed.

MUSIC BOX

Music Box is a simple app for the little ones and for sensory rooms. The app plays background music, and the players may activate different sounds by tapping images on the floor, which trigger a funny animation.

It is easy to design your own games, as you can upload your own sounds and images if you wish to work within a specific topic.

OTHER UPDATES

• We have made a small correction of the Sensory Path app, where the shadow on the ceiling version of WizeFloor overshadowed the turtle in the end.
• We have created a mode for social distancing, which allows you to disable games where players get close to each other. The feature is activated by editing your group as administrator and clicking the box “Activate social distancing” and “Save group”. The mode is then activated automatically next time you open the floor menu.
